Artists, as most of us would like to claim, want to be able to freely express ourselves, to be able to create and execute our visions when we want it and how we want it. Putting restrictions to these ideas are really tough especially to those who strive for perfection. I think these restrictions are most apparent to wedding photographers, especially here in the Philippines. Nowhere in the world have I experienced a culture in forbidding taking photographs as rashly strict as here – I cannot name three places where I can just show-up and shoot without asking permission or getting a permit, in fact I cannot name one place unless we count the UP Diliman campus – which in itself is not 100% permit free.

Today’s feature wedding of Jay and Pam is somehow connected with the point I just raised, because the church where the ceremony was held is known to many as one of the strictest church in the Philippines. There are a lot of guidelines to follow and there are even more restrictions to keep to. As a natural reaction, I tried to resist and even break these regulations. After several encounters and warnings, I was able to establish a shoot strategy that will allow me shoot artistically and abide by the rules at the same time. Hence, while others were put off, we was challenged and continued to do our best.

And that brings us to the beautiful wedding of Jay and Pam. As a wedding photographer, no amount of limitation should be great enough to frustrate me in creatively capturing what is an intensely wonderful series of moments. The love, joy, and pure celebration of the day is more than enough inspiration.
