Last week, Lance Ocean Ruiz, my eldest turned 9 years old. Time really flies, it feels so recent when he was just a baby and now he’s almost as tall as his mom. But I’m happy that despite the crazy schedule I had being a photographer, it allowed me to manage my own time and travel – both of which gave us the opportunity to really see him grow and experience wonderful things and places with him.
We spent the last weekend celebrating his birthday out-of-town to have this yearly birthday shoot of him and have some family adventure. Unfortunately, we ran in a bit of an accident and Lance fell from a recreational horse ride and fractured his left forearm. It was heartbreaking to witness it being in a horse behind him. But things could have been so much worse and we’re relieved that he is now fine – his arm in a cast but he’s in a very good condition.
These photos of us were taken before the incident and it’s nice to see how the photos turnout. I’m so delighted to shoot Lance because I feel he does even better than my instructions to him. I guess having your dad shoot you yearly makes great practice.
Happy 9th birthday to my baby boy. You know we love you so much. :)
