Hongkong Destination Pre-wedding | Kara and Ming

When destination photoshoots were on their infancy, when travelling to exotic places were unheard of, Hongkong was the easy choice. It is very near, it’s urban and convenient, and it is a really interesting place for such endeavours. In fact, my very first shoot outside the Philippines, eight years ago, was in HongKong. It seems like eons ago because it really was. The kind of pre-wedding shoot concepts and destinations that are shot nowadays have evolved rather radically. But this is not to say that Hongkong is passe to the more exotic and grand places like Bagan and Jaipur, or say Paris and Venice – Hongkong has kept its luster and this is the reason it is the location of choice for today’s feature.

It has been a dream of ours to be able to shoot on a junk boat. We love boats and these icons of the Victoria Harbor are one of the absolutes when we talk about boats. Needless to say that is it not easy to make such shoots possible. For starters, they are rare – there are only a handful that are still in operation and thus they are very popular and difficult to charter, and that is if you have the funds to privately rent these in the first place. We suggested the vision to Kara and Ming and as fortunate as one can get, they made it possible for us to work on fulfilling this junk boat aspirations of ours.

Not without any setbacks, the rugged gusts of wind on the day of the shoot didn’t allow us to raise the sails open when the boat is in front of the Hongkong skyline. While the gloom that day would have also been a wretched occurrence, we just made sure use it as an opportunity to make the shots evermore dramatic.

With that said, I think that we have crossed-out a big ticket on out list and we did it in such a spectacular way. Kara and Ming’s photos are beautiful because everything about it are beautiful. They are once of the nicest and best-looking people one can work with and that just made the experience ever more unforgettable. So let’s go back to where destination shoots has started and enjoy Hongkong’s Aqua Luna junk boat and its other spots like you’ve never seen it before.
