If lady luck is a real person, I will come over to her and give her a huge hug, maybe even a kiss. She has been really nice to me over the years, well maybe mot as immensely nice as with other people but generous enough at the very least. This is more true when it comes to most of our shoots. Yes, hardwork and planning come into play but luck had always helped. Yet like in everything, the odds will eventually catch up. Ironically, it had to be on the one time we needed it most. 

Late last year, we ventured into a dream pre-wedding shoot in Canada. We amped the planned B.C. shoot and squeezed, in the one-day our schedules will allow, a trip to Yellowknife to catch the Northern Lights. We had one chance in one night during the time of the year when the activity was the lowest. 

We have almost always won against the odds with positive thinking, but we weren’t fooling ourselves this time and the dancing northern lights were nowhere to be found. Actually we were still lucky enough for them to be there, just not more lucky for the clouds to clear. So instead of dancing green lights, what we got was a subdued, dull and diffused version of it. I would really love to call it underwhelming but to be honest, I was still astonished by it and by Liz and Marco, who braved the coldest temperature I’ve shot (well below freezing) just to get these still amazing photos from Yellowknife that together with those that we shot around Vancouver – made for one of our most unforgettable shoots ever.
