Salar de Uyuni Bolivia Pre-wedding Photographer | Maureen and Mark (Part 2)

In the previous installation of the series, we shared photos from day one of our shoot in Salar de Uyuni and we highly recommend that you read that wonderful piece. Today, we reveal the second and final day of our pre-wedding shoot in Bolivia. If you think the salar desert and the train cemetery are amazing, I’m sure you’ll love to see the spots we shot on this feature.

We only covered two places on this last day because the salar is so vast that it takes hours to go from one spot to another, but throughout it was one jaw-dropping scene after another.

We were still having altitude sickness and it was so difficult to prepare and get started for the day. Our first stop was a deserted railway that goes all the way to Chile. These are the tracks that the trains from the train cemetery used during the Spanish occupation, transporting mined silver ores along the salt desert. From the track you can see Volcan Ollague in the background and it was a sight to behold. There were even dear running around the plains.

After another 4 hours of driving, we arrived in Laguna Hedionda for a close encounter with the flamingoes. I have to say that this is one of most amazing things I’ve seen in my life. The flamigoes themselves are beautiful already but with such a surreal background, the experience is just in another level.

I wasn’t an easy shoot. It was scorching and chilly at the same time and we were all still lightheaded because of the altitude. We were literally running on our last ounces of energy. Mark was extremely sunburnt and these things make it difficult when we were there to shoot beauty. But we gathered ourselves and persevered. We were still able to shoot some interesting shot with the birds. After this we hurried-up for another 8-hour drive back to Uyuni town for our overnight bus ride back to La Paz.

The tour was supposed to be for three days but we just decided to forgo the last day because the trip has really taken its toll on us. We just wanted to go back to La Paz, rest and enjoy our last two remaining days. Nonetheless, what we got was enough already as Uyuni is spectacular in so many ways.

I hope you enjoy these pre-wedding photos from Salar de Uyuni, it is truly one of the most difficult albeit beautiful shoots we’ve done. And please do come back for the last part of this series where we take you to the climax of this trip – when we almost died (or at least that’s what we felt) climbing the rainbow mountain of Peru.
