Pre-Wedding

Sei and Paolo | Havana, Cuba Pre-wedding Photographer

To travel is one of life’s greatest pleasures. To time travel, on the other hand, is one of mankind’s greatest dream. I am no Marty McFly but what if I told you that I was able to do both and have the photos to show for it? Several months ago, we visited one of the most enigmatically unique places in the world to shoot the engagement session of Sei and Paolo. Here in Havana, Cuba, you are transported to a different place and to a different time. Because of the extensive reach of the embargo that the United States has slapped on Cuba in the 60s, the country has been virtually stuck in time since. Cars, people, structures and ways of life have not changed much. It’s a dream location for any shoot. It takes something special to shoot in such a place and aptly, I have one of the most special ones in Sei and Paolo. These two are family to me and Paolo is a significant part of what Metrophoto is today. Traveling back in time and having these photos with them is surely a history we would love to back to, time and time again. Enjoy.

Joyce and Raymond | An Intimate Lahlhuna Silang Cavite Pre-wedding

It was tricky adjusting to the fact that we cannot travel internationally for shoots anymore. Accepting it was easy; it was in maintaining the quality and the uniqueness of our photoshoots that was difficult. At Metrophoto, we rarely repeat a particular location for our prenup or pre-debut shoot, moreover, the shoot itself. If there is something very ordinary about a site, we elevate it with a concept. With international travel before, we didn’t have to think about something unique for every shoot because traveling itself WAS THE UNIQUE CONCEPT already. Nowadays is a different story. Every scheduled shoot, we thoroughly plan to make sure that we at least have the provisions to make it unique if the place doesn’t provide it by default. And sometimes, no matter how much we plan, there would be shoots that would require our experience and improvisational skills to get ‘elevated.’ This is on top of making sure that everyone is on board any plans we can think of – thank God for clients like Joyce And Raymond. Truth be told, Lahluna is a pretty nice place for a prenup shoot already, and we could have gotten away with only shooting on the ground below the beautiful tree. But where is the fun in that, right? Wasn’t it more thrilling (and we got more shot variations) that we asked Joyce to climb the tree instead? Wasn’t it more memorable (and we got movie-like photos) that we tried to execute shots with the horses in the […]

Shaira and Arnold | Philippines Pre-wedding Photographer

When Shaira booked me four years ago, her first question to me was, “What is your dream shoot?” Ambitious as I am, I said that one of them was to shoot at Mt. Everest. From that point on, I saw Arnold and Shaira do everything they could to make it happen. Needless to say, we were all thrilled at the prospect of this once-in-a-lifetime experience (and shoot!). The planning was intense. We were going to fly – not hike – to the Everest Base Camp and shoot what could have been one of the most iconic photos of Metrophoto. We were set to travel to Nepal last April 2020 and then the worldwide lockdown hit. We tried several times more to see if we could still move forward, but further complications, mostly brought about by Covid-19, just made it impossible. The world had been turned upside down and everyone was still reeling from the pandemic. It would’ve been understandable to do something easy and simple. But who’s to say we’re ones to settle? We collected ourselves and thought about doing something just as exciting and memorable. I then remembered how I was inspired by another Harry Styles video where he was floating above and around the stunning Scottish landscape. It was another dream shoot that won’t require travel abroad, though it presented its own sets of challenges. I shared the idea with Shaira and Arnold and they were up (pun intended) for the challenge! The Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija […]

Kim and Tim | A Siargao Pre-Wedding

No matter how many times I have shot in Siargao, the place would always reveal a side of it that’s less seen. Sometimes, I think its beauty is also just inexhaustible; that’s why there is always something new to behold every time we visit. For this shoot of Kim and Tim, we went to the signature Siargao prenup spots – Sugba Lagoon, Cloud 9, and the Magpupungko Rock Pools. We have scoured these places before, but still, we found interesting perspectives that gave the photos of Kim and Tim distinction on top of, of course, being beautiful. Many thanks to Kim and Tim (and their entire crew) for pursuing and pushing our vision for this shoot as much as I did. We encountered challenge after challenge, but each time, we broke through. The photos and the memories left in our hearts tell us that everything was worth it. Enjoy

The Pre-wedding of Sarah and Edison

In Metrophoto, we plan things as much as possible. We want to have to control everything because this gives us the best chance in achieving whatever executions we want to do with our shoots. Sometimes though, this is not the case. Unforeseen circumstances have led to me shooting Sarah and Edison much much sooner than even they expected. There was really no chance to go very far even if we wanted to, so we chose a place to shoot that would allow us to finish everything within one day. Tinipak River in Tanay Rizal was more difficult to get to than we thought. What was planned to be an entire day of shoot was cut short to half the time. But working with a couple that’s not only willing but very much easy to work with and just looks good in whatever shot you put them into, everything turned out great. Thanks to Sarah and Edison for making this happen despite the rushed timing, you made this one an awesome experience. Kudos too to Mark Cua, AJ Alberto and to Tipping Point Collective for teaming-up with us. Enjoy the photos (and the cinemagraph)

Kam and Lewis | A Shanghai China Pre-wedding Special

It’s a struggle to write blog posts when there aren’t many words to say, but the struggle is most when there are just too many, it seems impossible to determine where to start. I’m at a lost for words writing today’s feature. I don’t know if it is because the experience was amazing, or because the photos were some of the best I’ve shot, or because Kam and Lewis were two people just being incredible in so many ways. Honestly, I think it is all of those. This trip took us to China’s cities of Shanghai, Lijiang, and Shangri-la. Each city has its own charm and each offered a different adventure both photo-wise and experience-wise. Being a city guy, I love cosmopolitans. Shanghai obviously is a favourite and while I was familiar with it somehow, I was still surprised with how we were able to bring about the allure of old China just by walking around. From the shoots we did on a rooftop overlooking Shanghai’s captivating skyline, to those by the streets; we were able to capture contrasting sides of the city (old and new and night and day) that were both intense and beautiful. These photos are those you will see in the first part of the feature. The second part of this special post, showcases the photos from Lijiang and Shangri-la, which I didn’t know was a real place (and not just a hotel brand). A part of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, Shangri-la indeed feels like being […]

Coleen and Billy’s Official Prenup Photos

Many of you know that we went to the extremes to shoot a totally unique prenup session for Coleen and Billy in Ethiopia (see it here). With it, we were able to showcase that prenup pictorials can be done with such splendour and passion. By design, we now go to the other end of the spectrum to give you a side of the couple that is unguarded, candid, and relaxed. Shot with ease and in backdrops that exhibit simplicity and clarity, it is the love and connection between Coleen and Billy that is the highlight of these prenup photos – the most official ones. We hope that these photographs, together with those from Ethiopia, show that love can be represented in many ways but still be tasteful, still be beautiful and still be real. We can’t thank Coleen and Billy enough for allowing us to dream and to execute in limits that has not been done before. Their passion for each other, for the people around them, and for their wedding is exceptional and they really deserve all the best that life can offer. We hope you enjoy the photos and look forward to those of the wedding photos of Coleen and Billy in a couple of days. Special thanks to the following people: Coleen’s Make-up: Pong Niu Billy’s Grooming: Aimee Grey Hairstyling: Renz Pangilinan Styling: Adrianne Concepcion Videographer: Bob Nicolas Location: Casa Bendita

Justine and Pepe | Manila Marriott Weddings

You know what is weird with this weird pandemic predicament we are all in right now? It is that this weird thing is becoming all too normal. Somehow the urgency and panic have dissipated and whether that is a good thing or a bad thing – there is no way of telling yet. But you know what is always a good thing? Love. And let us share with you today one of the most endearing weddings we shot this year, that of Tatin and Pepe. Don’t get fooled by their witty (or should I dare say erotic) hashtag, ‘TatsmyPepe’, this celebration is filled with the proper type of fun and the most melt-your-heart moments. Having been through a lot in their relationship, these two have been patient, have been forgiving and they have persevered. The profoundness inside the church during their vows and the revelry that surrounded the entire day says it all. ‘TatsmyPepe’ has ‘Tats’ everyone who were there, for all the right reasons. As we roll with the punches brought about by Covid-19, may we continue to do what we know are good things – not tats our faces and for the time being, allow Tatin and Pepe to tats us with the photos from their wedding. Stay safe everyone. ___________________ Suppliers: Photo: Oly Ruiz Make-up: Mariah Santos Gown: Valta Guba Planning: La Belle Fete Video: Bob Nicolas
